My wife and I pay $550.50 a month for rent.Is there a law when the owner of the home charges a family member an extra $200.00 to stay with us.The home is a two bedroom with a lot of room. She found out that my brother draws a SSI check and started charging.I was under the understanding all my life that when you rent that at least one family member can stay with out paying.

In our rental agreement which we signed on moving in, this was specified as sub-letting and was definitely not allowed. All people living permanently in the apartment had to be clearly shown at the outset.

You are wrong. If you and your wife sign the lease, then YOU TWO can stay there. If you want to move someone else in your lease should address what would happen. You do not get to move one family member in without paying. Another person adds wear and tear, may not even qualify (i.e., criminal background check, etc.), and adds to utility costs.

Thats why you READ your rental agreement, something has to be in there about it.
