i haven't kept discus myself, but i've geeked up reading about them hehe. below is a good profile of their care written by an experienced keeper. the forum below that is chock full of keepers of central and south american cichlids, including Discus.

have you kept other fish? i would only attempt to get discus after you've perfected the care of perfect water conditions as Discus are VERY fussy! once they've acclimatised to your tank they do become easier, but many keepers need to do bi-weekly water changes on Discus tanks to keep their water conditions tip-top perfect. and even have peat in their filters to keep the PH spot-on.

I have kept and bred discus in the past and can tell you that keeping them is somewhat demanding. Your tank needs to be very carefully planned, especially the filtration system. Discus demand very controlled water quality and it will require quite a bit of time on your part to insure those needs are met. I don't know exactly what it is you want to know, but I would suggest you google up some sites about discus keeping and read up there as wellas invest in a book on them before buying a single one. They really are that touchy so invest a little time before you invest the big bucks.
