Reading the responses, it sounds like people are thinking of the end of the world as the END, not the beginning!
Yes, in a lot of ways, I wish it was the end of the world, because I think what will start then will be infinitely more perfect and lovely than what we have now. This world and its headaches can sometimes seem like a lot to handle, especially the "big picture" ones like the troubles in the middle East, for example. And, for some people, the "little picture" ones (not to belittle the significance) of troubles in your own life...
But anyway, for those who believe in God... have read, understood, and believe the Bible... there's nothing to fear in the end of the world except, I guess (and this is not to sound all hell-fire-ish), for those who aren't on good terms with God! Those people do have a lot to fear from the world ending, but there's no reason for that, because anyone and everyone is invited into a relationship with God.
Well, I don't want to get preachy, not this early LOL. But interesting question. I would be interested in your own thoughts, since you posed the question.

There have been many times in my life when I wished the earth would swallow me up. However, you have to live in hope that the dark clouds will lift and that somewhere over the rainbow is that life you've been longing for. So for now, I am happy that its not the end of the world because there is still a chance that my dreams will come true. Also, there are so many places in the world that I still want to visit.

no, not yet, Today is always worse than yesterday and that is why we have tomorrow. If the world ended today we wouldn't have tomorrow to do things better. But since tomorrow always comes around to being today, we're in a perpetual state of hope, and wishing it was the end of the world right now, we'd be giving up any hope we had.
However, I do wish it was the end of certain parts of the world. Like Rubert Mugabe, starvation, poverty, etc.

Sorry, we don't get out of here till the last amoeba attains enlightenment.
Judging from the answers some of the so-called chosen people are giving this could take quite a while.
Contrary to popular belief God is not going to let us quit till everyone figures out the way to get back home.
The fantasy about hell is just a lie about God that was made up to give a few holier than thows someone to feel better than. God loves us too much to let a single soul become lost.
Love and blessings Don

Be careful of what you wish for......you might not like the results, and you can't un-wish it once it comes true. Sounds like a selfish wish to me. My world?, how about just your world.

That depends on the meaning of "end of the world". As the Mayans predict I can hardly wait to see it. Biblically ...I don't think so. Cosmically...it should be interesting.

More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One
path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total
extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.
