why do animal stick there legs out stiff when they are dead?

rigormortis- people do it too. Usually happens about 3-8 hours after death, depending on the size of the animal. To simplify it, all of the protiens holding your muscles contracted (like when you cross your legs) break down and then they expand- and all muscles are at the rigid extended position- like if you can't contract a muscle. After a couple more hours, the protiens holding the cells together break down and they go limp again.

Its called rigor mortis. It happens to every living thing when they are dead - humans too.....until decompostion starts.

Because they have to. And they want to let people know they are dead and not sleeping.
