Yes I agree with you, do you remember Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sound of Music, when they were searching for somebody to play Maria, the BBC were constantly plugging it and it was only a West End show!

Yes, they are like the medias version of stocking fillers. Time wasters. If you want to know what's on TV you look in the paper, or ceefax. Why would a person who might be interested in the programme being advertised, just happen to be viewing at the time it is advertised?
To be honest though, particularly as regards the BBC, I am far more concerned by their admitted left wing bias, and their ongoing attempts to indoctrinate the viewer. So, I definitely do not agree with 'snashraf' that they are impartial. Also, they don't stick to reporting facts, the person in the studio often asks the reporter in the field to talk about news items or speculate on them in terms of what might happen next. This strictly isn't news, but opinion and speculation. Oh dear! and all that unnecessary arm waving.

The Beeb seem to be spending a lot of time cross promoting their shows. I don't mind too much, as it's a damn sight better than the alternative - adverts for stuff I don't want to buy.
Do I think there should be a curb on the amount of ads the BBC has for itself - no, but I think it should be careful what it gets up to. It's not very popular with the Govt and I wouldn't be surprised if the regulators start interfering.

I watch BBC America every morning and it doesn't bother me at all compared to the advertising on Fox, CBS, ABC, CNN and all the others. The quality of reporting is so superior that I can live with any sort of commercials...

yes I am. I am also fed up with ITV advertising other programmes during the breaks in successful programmes. It's so annoying.

In agree, and yes it annoys me a bit. They give some story on breakfast tv that is supposedly news, then give you hear the full story on Panorama line.
The BBC shold report the news, not create it

BBC is known for honest reporting of news. It normally gives back ground of news. With news there are different references(past news on the subject, important web sites including profile of the country). There is a system of complaint also. There may be exception but it is normally known for impartial reporting. Its services are free to foreign countries.

The BBC has had ad breaks for years - just advertising itself.
Simple solution - get rid of your TV and stop paying the license fee!

Doesn't bother me at all. The BBC is the only honest and legit news agency in the world. Sometimes you have to put up with minor things to see the best there is.

Ratings are the name of the game, so promotions like adverts or plugs are inevitable.
