Ok. People. FORGET the brainwashing. F-o-r-g-e-t it. I am not talking about Hitler or anything in the holocaust. Got it? Good. better. I am simply talking about...how do I put this...remember how people used to say "bad" meaning that the thing was good. And remember how some people like the villains and how sometimes the hostages start to relate with their captors? Think that way...nice and easy...like your writing it for an english teacher and this thing counts for if you are going to graduate or not. Calm...breath...in and out...now put your fingers on the keyboard and type...thoughtfully. Not causing psychological shock to poor ally. Thank you.

simply put, your gas don't smell evil? ahahah! but seriously most crazy people don't think they are crazy and most Conservative people think that they are mainstream as well as liberals, so to sum up most people think that they are normal no matter how abnormal most people think they really are!

Some folks are attracted to "evil" because it helps them with their rebellious (juvenile) expression. My juvenile expression comes out in my "Lima syndrome"... I hate Lima beans!! Brainwashing is easy: T.V. ask Hitler, he used it well. Ok more recently I read that when a thought or an idea is repeated in your brain it creates a physical pathway much like a dog makes in the yard at the end of the leash. The "path" is what your mind follows "as belief" because it is now the path of least Resistance.

Attracted to evil...
Okay, think of it like this - I'm a "Bad Boy" because then I'm going against "Society's rules". I'm (you might have to use plasticine logic, now) an Individual.
I'm not like the Boring People. I don't follow the Boring Rules. (I might even go so far as to enter into unconscious self parody, and wear a black t-shirt with a death metal band logo on it. Who's the individual, now...?).
Well, so much for the attraction of evil.
I'd honestly never heard of Lima syndrome, but the Wikipedia put me to rights. Interesting. I'm afraid my interest in such affairs faded long ago. Once hostage takers stopped having amusing names like Baader-Meinhoff, it all rather lost it's appeal.
If my answer has been of any help, my avatar can give you any details you need.
Well written question, and supporting notes.Thank you.

people are attracted to the idea of evil because being evil is easier than to be good, we are enticed by the prospect of being on the wrong side because we lived in a very competetive world
money, power and woman are the main reason we are striving to attain to compete in our materialistic world, we compete day in and day out we try to better than the rest we are greedy by nature
and our greediness has no limit, we envy those who have a big house, we envy those who drive an expensive sports car and we envy those who got pretty woman
to be evil is the short cut to acquire this human needs
you can sell drugs, you can rob a bank or run an illegal business helps, once you get the money you can get power once you get power you can get women all this prospect is imbedded in our mind so the call of evil is easy to attain
to attain this needs sometime we are not just bad we become
brutal, we become very cruel, and become true evil
they say money is the root of all evil
im a simple man just give me lots of money i will root the devil himself

I think people are attracted to the idea of 'evil' in rebellion of something they are told is 'good' but to them is wrong and/or dysfunctional. Good and evil are subjective terms in this world, and although there are certain things most people can agree on, most of it is up for debate.
Also in Western culture the division between 'good' and 'evil' is extremely unbalanced. Everything is supposed to be 'good' 'pure' and perfect in the sense of unblemished; but the truth is, life simply isn't like that. It is perfect in the sense of being whole, which includes a certain amount of darkness, chaos, and death, which are necessary for life and acually quite healthy and appropriate when in balance.
I think people sense this instinctively, and the glorification and pressure to relentlessly pursue what is light (yang) leads many people to focus on darkness (yin) and find comfort in it, recognizing the balance and completeness and health of embracing this energy.

The lure of evil? It's very simple. It's about validation. Everybody wants to be validated. But I don't think it's so much evil as it is indulging the dark side of your personality.
And sorry, I don't let anybody contact me through here.
