Let's say you have ten stores. Each store is performing Point of Sale (POS) transactions that are entered in a local database in a server that is in the store. Each night, each store downloads their POS transaction data to a larger database (data warehouse)at the corporate office into. This data is then searched upon to get company info so they can determine things like what product sells better, what store is doing better, what cashier does more transactions, etc.
