Why was Tosca evicted from the group? I didn't watch the programme from the beginning, so I don't know what happened.

Anybody know?

Tosca, one of Flower's daughters, was evicted because she had the nerve to have pups! Flower booted her but kept her kids. Sometimes they get let back in like Mozart has but not poor Tosca. I don't get why the pups got to stay, though. Often they will kill them. Anyway, poor Tosca did not survive the winter on her own. I LOVE that show!

Meerkat families are headed by the dominant female. In order to keep the group healthy and safe, thier instinct is to only allow the dominant female to have babies. The fewer babies born at once, the better chance of survival of the pups. Tosca went and got herself pregnant and that put the family in danger so Flower's instinct and the family's instinct is to evict Tosca to keep her own pups safe. The dominant female's pups are always shown preference to any other pup born at the same time and Flower could have even killed Tosca's pups as sometimes is the practice for Meerkats.

She got pregnant and had a litter. Meerkats are like wolves in respect to reproduction. Only the alpha male and female have litters, all others are not allowed and if they do, often the pups will be killed and the offending female driven out.
