I would end greed.
Greed leads to corruption.
Corruption leads to violence.
Violence leads to war.
If there was no greed there would be no reason for war. It always comes down to greed somewhere.
Greed is the root cause of breaching 6 of the 10 commandments.

I tried hard to think of a thing, but the good and the bad go together and make our world what it is; War, Famine, Advertising and poverty are the result of human nature, not a lack of education, and give meaning to peace and plenty and wealth.
I could not take away something fundamental for fear of unforeseen consequences. The trivial is not worth removing, even the Ewoks, and who knows maybe there is a reason for them as well.
I guess it would be me as I have not got a whole lot to offer and I take up space and resources for it. It would not be a huge benefit but, I am pretty sure there would be little harm in it. Also I have had a good go at it (life) already.
As to how, possibly post a question on Answers. Obviously those with the best answers might not be around to do so!

Brilliant question!!
Strangely I'm not going to go for any of the obvious answers (war, disease, poverty, famine, etc.)
I would put a stop to multi-millionaire media barons owning such a large percentage of the means of disseminating information to ordinary people. The opinions of a few mega-rich men filter down into the filth that tabloid rags publish as 'news'. I think it would benefit mankind and bring us all together if our knowledge of world events was closer to the truth.

If I could end one thing, it would be Work. Billions of us are engaged in repetitive, pointless activity and billions of us have converted this redundancy into a faith, a moral code.
I would gradually reduce everyone's working week to the point where the empty hole that would be left in everyone's life would have to be filled by desire. Those who wanted to live a life of repetitious somnambulism would then be free to do so, but they could never again claim it to be an obligation.

I would send Celine Dion on a one-way trip to Mars. This has two benefits:
a) We don't have to put up with her music anymore
b) It will prove whether there is life on Mars as the Martians are bound to come out of hiding to capture Celine and send her on to the next planet.

I would end war by getting everyone so high that they had no energy or will to fight anymore, and they would understand that there is a way for all of us on earth to coexist without fighting.

Poverty...be in charge of the government, give every person over 18 a truck load of money......It will be up to them if they sink or swim, at least we all start at the same level......(wouldnt it be nice)!!....Also make every country multicultural, that way, no wars, no need to fight over religion or land if every country is the same.......(Idealistic yes, would it work, yes, would it happen, no..sad, but true)...
