I need to buy a new washine machine and I have heard of these new appliances called 'washer dryers' which do both things in one single machine.
I wanted to ask whether anybody has tried them and are they worth it? Somebody said that they are not that good, what do you think? And is any particular brand better than another?
I would like 'tried and tested' answers only please. Thanks

Thanks for telling me that you end up with even higher electricity bills than the single machine- this is the last thing we need!!!!

No they never work as well as single machines and use much more electricity. Especially when you are trying to dry towels etc. Also they go wrong much quicker and are much more expensive and harder to fix. Usually you get told to replace the machine instead of repair.

NO NO NO don't do it!!! They save space and that's about it!!!
I used to have one and now I'm firm in the belief that 1 thing should never be made to do 2 jobs - unless it's a woman of course. Take 2-in-shampoo & conditioners - your hair doesn't feel really clean - great for saving time though.
With a 2 in 1 washer dryer, you can't do both at the same time so if you got more than one load then you got to wait for the 1st to be washed and then dried.
Please don't do it lol.
I've now got a direct drive washing machine - really really fab - not a sound comes from her even on 1400 spin and shortest wash is only 41 mins!! And a condenser dryer - wouldn't swapp them for anything.
Hope this helps and sorry if sound harsh!!! xx

It depends, if you only have space for the washing machine, but you would like a dryer as well then the obvious choice will be washer-dryer. We have a washer-dryer and had to get it repaired 3 times since we bought it (new). So if you don't want problems try to stick to a washing machine only. The service guys said the combination of both make the washer-dryer break easier.

Depends - if you only have space for 1 appliance that getting a combined one will help get your wasing dry. However, a drier can take less stuff than a washer so you may need to dry in 2 lots. Because a washer dryer does 2 things itis more likely to break. You can not wash while you are drying so if you have your machine on a lot, it will be more difficult with a combined machine.
My opinion - if you have space go for 2 machines, one to wash one to dry.

...be prepared for a VERY high electricity bill with a washer-dryer (or even with just a dryer). It's way higher than just the washing machine alone.
Get a condensing model that doesn't required an outside vent - that means the machine will scavenge as much of the waste heat as it can, so your bills will be less spectacular.
Get Bosch. Do NOT get Whirlpool or Indesit.
Or just dry the clothes on the radiator like the rest of us.

Washer dryers are not new. They've been around at least 20 years.
There good if you're stuck for space, but if you have the space it's better in my opinion to have two machines. You can then wash and dry at the same time, and a specialist tumble dryer is probably better than the combination type.

IMO it is better to have two appliances. If something goes wrong with either, you can usually find a way round it. If something goes wrong with a double entity then you have to find solutions to two probs.
Also, in my experience, the more things a machine can do the more complex they are. I like a washer that washes, and a dryer that dries. I don't need umpteen other options.
Condenser driers are brill, no pipes. I have Beko machines for these tasks. Cheap to buy, economic to run, and no probs.

No. I had one because I was stuck for space. The washer worked ok, but drying clothes was slow. I would recommend separate machines, unless you are short on room! Plus as others have said bills increase with the dual machine.

If you only have space for one it can be more practical, but you cannot wash and dry at the same time and if one breaks you will have to replace both. When we had one it was always breaking because we used it to much it never got a rest.

Whole cycle takes forever. If you have separate machines at least you can be drying one load whilst another is in the washing machine.
