For events like the Anti-war march that happened in Trafalger Square? Do I need to join a union or something?

when I was in iraq as part of circus2iraq.org, all the freelance reporters just went on the internet and either copied press pass's from people such as "the times" etc or simply made thier own. There's no law about making your own press I.D., only about useing false i.d. (i.e. i.d. in another name) for offical goverment stuff or fraud.
Your i.d. will look even better if it has some sort of stamp on it, half covering the photo, and a number (The one I made for kosova was number 007 and had a photo of me with a red clowns nose on, and it still got me through check points)

A Press Pass is a document issued to representatives of the Press and not individuals who just want one. Become a legit Journalist, that's the way to do it.
