And, one reason we learn to recite the alphabet--the list of all the letters used in our language--is that it teaches us alphabetical order, which is very helpful should we ever want to use a dictionary, index or encyclopedia.

The alphabet is made so you can spell words and later. You learn it in kindergarten and 1st grade so you start recognizeing them and knowing there sounds so you'll be able to know the words better.
