I know this is really a far out there question, but I was curious if anyone knows how it happens. With my first my water broke when I was about 8 or 9cm dialated. With my second he was apparently born in his bag of water...or I should say that they broke it after or as his head was delivered.

Does the bag become weak in a spot and just breaks spontaneously? Or is it a hormonal thing with the baby? Anyone know?

As the baby grows inside of you the bag stretches and as the head descends in the birth canal that part of the bag becomes more stretched and most of the time breaks with some delivery's they have to break the bag it is nothing to worry about.

This is a very good question and one i have wondered about myself. I always thought that it depended on the ferocity of your contractions but as some women's do rupture before labour even starts that is probably unlikely. I did a little internet search on the subject once but didn't really find anything.. Except i did read somewhere that premature rupture of the membranes (when a women is less than 37 weeks) could be mal-nutrition in the mother.. Hope you find your answer and will be checking back to see if someone actually knew the answer.. Xx

great question,
I'm having baby # 5 and all my others had to have the waters broken so i reckon the same thing will happen again this time,
i was told i could leave my waters till i started pushing and they would go in the end but i stopped dilating at around 8cms so they broke them to speed it up for me.!!!! and boy did it speed things up so at a guess id say the pressure helps the break!!
sorry couldn't answer it for you !!!

you may have them ruptured on the wellbeing center. there's achievable after your water breaks- in basic terms lots time can bypass till now the toddler is in possibility. you may now decide for a experience in a Jeep or a boat in case you desire to objective and harm your man or woman water.

i always thought it was the baby pushing down on it so hard, or possibly the contractions being forceful...but come to think of it, it cant be, because a lot of babies are born in their amniotic sac..and a lot of times doctors have to break it artificially.
