I need a website for my faux finishing business. It doesn't have to be super fancy, just something that I can show photos of my work and have some contact information. Unfortunately I don't really understand the whole HTML programming stuff! Whats the simplest way to do a website and after I do that, how do I get it ranked well in a web search?

Thanks for the help. I sort of knew you had to get the page hosted, its a lot of work to get the page up I guess! I always wondered how a website comes up first when you search Google. Is it by relevance to your parameters or do you pay to get put up top? You are all very helpful thanks!

If you still need a webpage, I'm a web designer. I can design the webpage and upload it to a host of your choice. I recommend webhelps.com- they offer free hosting (inline ads are displayed at the top and bottom of pages, but it's a good starter host). As far as your search engine rank- customized meta-tags and a domain name will help. Write back if interested.

depends on what you want.
You can buy "canned websites" from places like www.godaddy.com They charge about $10 for the domain name (per year) and as little as $7.00/month for a site.

You could also start a free store or about me in a place like http://www.whyabe.com With a site like this, you just register as a supplier, then click the sell button, you will get to upload a photo and description of your item for sale, as well as contact information, and they do not charge anything.

You can also get free websites, like http://www.freewebs.com they will give you everything you need for a free site, but people you will not get your own website like mywebsite.com, you will get something like http://www.freewebs.com/myfreewebsite... which can be confusing for people and hard to get you traffic to the site.

You cannot PAY to have you website at the top of the pack. you can however pay to have your website listed as an advertiser at the top or side of a search engine. This is called pay per click advertising. Look for "search engine optimization" to find out about getting top listings, it takes a lot of understanding and time to get top listings.

when you find this one out let me know ,the web building is easy,.
its the rest of it that gets you pissed off,
how do I get it ranked well in a web search
give you a tip do not listen to any of the submit sites or optimization ones either, they tell you a load of crap in order to get money out of you ,promise you then don't come up with the goods, you can get on a thousand search engines, (yes the ones no one searches)make sure you do not go with the ones where you have to agree with terms and conditions in the smallprint thy can sell your e-mail address on, then you will get 10.000 prospective visitors. but your e-mail address also will get flooded with spam, the heading on these is you signed up with so and so , its like them saying we have right to e-mail you with our crap offers. just so you can show your photos
