I thought Little Miss Sunshine should've won! The Departed was a great movie as well but just not as good.

I think that the award should go to the Departed for several reasons.The most important factor is his director:Martin Scorsese.He has done a lot of great movies like Taxi driver ,Raging Bull,The Aviator so he deserved to take the oscar .
But the movie was great .Leonardo DiCaprio and Mat Damon were great but the best was in my opinion Jack Nicholson.This is one of the best actor that has walked on the Earth and has given to us some terrific films like One flew over the cuckoos Nest,Chinatown ,Easy Rider etc.
Otherwise I believe that the rest films(Babel,Letters from Iwo Jima,The Queen,and Little Miss Sunshine could compete equally and win if there was no Departed and no Martin!!!!

there is a few reasons the departed deserved to win. first Martin Scorsesce deserves to finally win an academy award. second because the departed was based on true life events (loosly based around whitey bulger's life) and third because it had an amazing story and an all-star cast. little miss sunshine was funny and a great film but i don't think it touched the departed...

they actually got this one right the whole night, the departed was by far the best film of the year, first off it had the greatest director of all time behind it in marty next off it was the best cast, they also got the actor and actress main and supporting right, and to the guy who said little miss sunshine was overrated your crazy its not my style either but it was a good movie, eddie murphy by the way go cry me a river

I did not see all of the movies in the best picture catagory but I belive that The Departed was the most deserving of those I had seen.

I've seen all 5 and The Departed was by far the best out of all of them
Flags of our fathers sucked hard, and Little Miss Sunshine is horribly overrated

This year there has been many good films. But I think that "The Devil Wears Prada" should have won, at least for best comedy of the year or something... "The Da Vinci Code" on the other hand should have one for best moviemusic.

I love movies so it's hard to pick just one, and many of my favorites were not nominated.
But between the 2 you mentioned I would say THE DEPARTED
