A recent survey revealed that American students knowledge of the world is woeful. On a world globe, 64% could not locate France, 78% could not locate Saudia Arabia, 22% said the Dead Sea was in Death Valley! & 35% did not know the capital city of Australia or Germany. This is but a part of the survey that does not bode well for education in general for the US.

international test scores paint a similar picture. perhaps its all the free time students have while attending school, or the social problems of a high divorce rate/ broken families, drug/alcohol abuse. I had to attend school 6.5 days a year, wear a uniform, acting up in school was not even a remote possibility as we would be strapped. After graduation I had mastered three languages, and was fully prepared for university. Students here are taught to code java now starting in grade 7-8, and other necessary coding/programming computer skills. I would like to point out that I grew up in Asia ( Islamic country [ gasp ] ), not America
