This can be caused by many factors. If it is a problem that is getting worse, talk to your doctor about having a Sleep Study done. It's a form of insomnia. I have gone literally 50+ hrs already straight. Not by choice. Medical field is rough when your at a 24 hr. nursing home facility and bad weather hits where the other shift dont or cant get in. The chemicals in your brain after so many hours can cause other problems that go with lack of sleep example hallucinations or paranioas.
If your mind is having racing thoughts what I have done was I would just write the thoughts even if they do not make sence just write them down as fast as they go through your mind.
Im not going to tell you to try herbal supplements or medications. That is for you and your doctor alone to discuss. He is the one who would be best to give you suggestions on this. Sleeping disorders is nothing to joke about so please go seek out help for it asap. It not only can keep you feeling tired and run down but you can get sick from no sleep, the immune system will weaken not to mention it can become so bad that it can impare your everyday living and life. There could also be underlying issues that are causing this also. Another reason why it is important to get in touch with your doctor.

Well, that's terrible! Go to your doctor and he can prescribe some sleeping pills or determine the underlying cause of this insomnia. You can try to take over the counter sleeping pills, but you may become dependent, so take them, but with caution. Good luck and I hope you finally get some shut-eye!

Try something called Valerian Forte! it is herbal thing! Blackmores! it wont knock you out and it wont harm you! only a suggestion it works for my husband! its a sleep formula for insomnia and regulating sleep patterns! he also just suggested camimile tea and if neither of there work your doctor may be able to prescribe valium! Advil PM...works great without any sleep aid dependency.
I now sleep about 6 hours instead of 2-3 hours a night.
