I'm worried I have noticed my mother during her menaupose period, she has become fat.

Yes, it is true. Women when entering menopause slow down. Their metabolism slows and they will gain weight. They need to adjust their exercise routine as they age. Hormones play a big part in your bodies ability to maintain and lose weight. It shouldn't make a woman obese but, it sure does add to the ability to maintain fat especially in the stomach and buttocks.

No, not everyone becomes overweight with menopause, the trick is to realize that the metabolism is slowing down which in turn will cause foods eaten to burn off far more slowly.

Watching the diet, getting plenty of exercise, even if only walking the dog...will help to keep you in good shape even through menopause.

As long as you realize that inactivity is going to cause weight gain quicker during menopause because of diet and lack of exercise...you should be just fine. I know a number of women who haven't gained weight at all...they are as trim as when they were in their 20's. Good luck
