you are loving and caring and willing to help out others in time of need. and maybe even put others before you. you are a special person. not tooo many people have a heart of gold. but if you were told this then the person who told you thinks you are special and it was meant as a compliment towards you and your personality

When I was divorced my ex wife got the gold and i got the shaft

but really a heart of gold is not common in this selfish world.
It means the person with a heart of gold is very generous with every thing she has or he has

Be careful!! Sometimes people who have hearts of gold means they are taken for granted or put upon but others. They go out of their way to please others even at a cost to themselves.
Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful to be caring and wall the other things that people have said but, just remember never to allow it to be a one-way street!

Gold represents value, purity, and often love. Gold is often given to those we love and cherish to reflect our feelings toward them. When someone compliments you, to say you have a "heart of gold" they are describing you as someone who is caring kind considerate and valuable to them. Your heart is sincere and true without negative motives. Quite simply your a keeper!!!

I understand it to be a person who gives their all for others. Will take off her last dress for someone in need, will feed the last piece of bread to the starving little birds :) someone who is absolutely sweet, kind, giving and unselfish.

I think it means someone who will do anything for you without it having to be returned or thrown in ur face, someone who's genuine and you know you can go to for help and it will always be there.

That you are understanding, considerate, caring, you don´t mind giving your time to people that need help and a shoulder to cry on.

If some guy said that to you, I am not sure that he meant he fancied you, but it is definitely a compliment...
