1. Knitting has helped my self-confidence. I have been knitting for many years--before it was "cool". In my circle of family and friends, it's what everyone knows that I am good at. So, it gives me confidence to know that I am good at something that others are not good at.
2. It is my yoga. When I've had a bad day, it helps me to unwind. In my job and in parenting and other issues, the fruits of our work sometimes doesn't show up for a long time (if at all). Knitting is something that gives you a result, and if you don't like it, you can pull some of it apart and fix it (can't always do that with all the other parts of your life).
3. Keeps me from eating. When everyone else around me is snacking (whether in a meeting, at a movie, watching tv at home, etc) people are munching. My hands are occupied with needles and yarn. On the other hand though, it keeps me sitting, so that is probably a wash.
4. Allows me to be creative. I'm constantly looking at colors and thinking about what I can make iwth different color combinations. It keeps my brain working and thinking.
5. Nervous energy release. I can bring it almost anywhere.
Those are some of the ways that knitting has helped me!

Knitting helped me realise that I will make an excellent--and I mean EXCELLENT--old woman. I worked in a knitting shop for a while, and got to know scores of older ladies (so nice!), and realised, "hey, i could do this when I get older". I also learned a lot about knitting, and learned to respect every item of clothing I buy. My family is actually a little annoyed with me, and how I keep them from buying things that weren't knitted properly or made right. Now with my knitter's eye, i can spot out quality clothing! I haven't gotten to the point where I feel compelled to make patterns for the things I see in stores, but I'm waiting. It'll come.

I started knitting again back in 1990 while deployed with the Navy... it was my relaxation !! I could toss the needles and yarn in my helmet bag and while away the hours during long night-flights !! It would keep me busy and awake while staring at the radar screen.
With respect to the SERIOUS and skilled knitters.. it was mindless work that could either relax me or keep me alert.
I also used knitting when I was quitting smoking... kept my hands busy.

I've only been knitting since the first of the year but already it has helped me:
a) expand my social circle
b) tolerate imperfection more
c) boost my self-esteem/sense of competency
d) feel more emotionally connected to my mother, who was a knitter, but has passed away
It's really a wonderful hobby. Enjoy yourself.

Well, knitting has helped me relax when stressed out, let me use my creativity and learn color theory and design skills, lets me share my ability with others, allowed me to make items that I couldn't buy the equivalent of, give very nice gifts, led me to other equally satisfying hobbies, like spinning my own yarns, and, most of all, has kept me from wreaking bodily harm on my huband and children when they annoy the spit out of me .

it has helped me respect those who enjoy it and produce the most wonderful things. It has helped me gain respect for resources and for machine made clothes... It has taught me that I am happy I don't need to. I hate knitting.

While knitting hasn't directly benefitted me other than the purple, red, green, yellow & blue hat I received from my great aunt - I did use a pair of knitting needles to 'dispose' of a dead rodent one time so I wouldn't have to touch it with my hands.

It helps me pass the time while commuting on the bus every day. I get to feel productive and not feel like the time was a total waste.

It's given me a confidence boost because I get so many compliments on my sweaters. I can also whip out a gift for someone whenever I want. And it has increased my wardrobe.
