the satellite is constantly falling to the earth, it's just that the speed that it's travelling at horizontally is the same as the rate of decent.... example when you throw a ball horizontally, it will hit the ground... the faster you throw the ball, the farther it travels..same with the satelite just soooo much faster, that it just doesn't get the chance to actually hit the ground

wolf wagon is right. Objects in orbit are in perpetual freefall in the gravitational well of the object around which they are orbiting.

it is due many reasons :-
1. earth gravitational pull or earth's attraction
2. centripetal force
3. at every point it is falling towars earth at same time and same velocity it is moving TANGENTIALLY

they actually wouldnt stay up, except we send rockets up every so often to push them back onto their normal orbital coarse
