Very carefully. You can buy guitar kits to make the process simply from a company called Wartmouth, check them out.

If you really want to build one, the end result will have cost you more in parts than if you had bought a modestly priced new one.
Go to a good guitar shop that deals in spares and used guitars and find a guitar neck as a first step, because the process of making your own is far too involved. Make a note of which guitar it came from, as you will have to match the scale length of the original.

Get yourself a copy of "Building Electric Guitars: How to Make Solid-Body, Hollow-Body and Semi-Acoustic Electric Guitars and Bass Guitars" (Paperback) by Martin Koch. This is available through many online bkk stores.

If you are really determined to build one first buy a book on the subject as recommended above. Then do some research there are many different pickups each with their own characteristics. My Grandson has just completed a Strat with a V profile neck (tailor made and the neck cost close on £200. It ain't cheap and it certainly ain't easy but it can be very rewarding. Good Luck.

Well, I would first take my TV apart and squirt mustard all over it. Then, I would dump ice-cream on it and bring a pumpkin and create a jack-o-lantern. Next, I would go to Starbucks and drink a coffee-based vanilla frappacino. So after that I would watch American Idol. Then I would buy an electric guitar! And, ta da, I have my very own electric guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can buy componants at www.musiciansfriend.com
The body can be made out of ordinary wood with ordinary tools.
The neck is the difficult part. You will not be able to make this yourself do to the high degree of precision required. The easiest way is to use one from an old guitar that you can get for very little money.
