No. You shouldn't have to change or try to make someone happy by being who or what they want you to be.

Life has shown me that it is a thankless pursuit.

If you continue to try to satisfy some people, they will act like they are your friend, while not really feeling that way. They might go as far as ridiculing you when you are not around.

But most importantly, being a people pleaser may seem like a selfless act of kindness, but it indicates a lack of self-worth or self-esteem. It's okay to help someone when they need it, but to constantly be concerned about pleasing others will result in neglecting your own needs.

By loving and caring for yourself, you will be able to love and care for others.

A true friend would accept you just as you are. You would be considered phony changing for others and they would see right through you. If there are things about yourself that you don't like by all means change them but don't change yourself for others.

A friend is a person on whom you can confidently rely on to help pull you through the hard times, and hold you accountable for your actions. A friend is loyal, and a brother is born in a time of need." A friend will not judge you for who you are, but they will help you to grow in life"
