The following has kept me free of colds and flues for the past two years: Make a ginger tea by grating some fresh ginger and pouring boiled water over it. Strain, and if you want, you can add honey, but I drink it without any sweeteners. It burns a bit, but a nice healthy burn which makes your throat immediately feel better!
Also, if you have the sniffles and a nasal drip which often cause sore throat and a cough, try sniffing salt water. Add about two pinches of salt to half a cup water, pour it into you hand little bits at a time and pull it into you nose. Do it over the basin, as all the gunk starts coming out! Sounds disgusting, but isn't because it really disinfects you nose and sinuses and makes you feel loads better afterwards. Do it at least twice a day, and your troubles might just be over in no time.
Hope you feel better soon! Aspirin works well for pain and fever, guess you know that!

Hot tea w/ a teaspoon of honey. I personally use a teaspoon of honey w/ a little milk. If possible, use mint tea, but if you can't get mint tea, regular tea will work fine, too.
A lot of people suggest lemon, but because lemon contains acid, it can actually agitate a sore throat. The "lemon" found in cough medicines is not real lemon, so that's why it's no big deal, but to use an actual lemon might bring more discomfort than relief.
Whatever you do, just don't combine lemon with anything using milk; it will cause the milk to curdle.
Of course, there's always the tried and true method of gargling warm salt water, but despite its relief, I still can't stand doing it.
