any base element usually the most used is baking soda. vinegar is an acid if you want color to your lava add food coloring. also try epson salts

Another one that works well are Refreshers sweets (the chalky things) and a bottle of Cola.

Take the top off your 2 litre cola - open the full packet of Refreshers, then drop them in the cola (the whole lot) in one vertical line.

Stand back as within 2-3 seconds you will have a cola fountain.

I've seen some of these go as high as 4-5 metres. Probably cheaper than the vinegar and baking soda one and much more effective.

I don't know anything other than baking soda, but if you add a little dish soap and food coloring it will look awesome.
