Well, I'm moving from Taiwan to America in the beginning of summer(I'm not sure where, most likely California, though we might also go to New York or New Jersey) and it's been awhile since I've been there. I live in Boston until I was 7,then we moved to Montreal, Canada until 4th grade and THEN we moved to Taiwan until now, 8th grade(I'm 14!!!yay!) I'm going to an international school, and high school seems kinda....weird. I mean, it's mostly rich preppy people and there aren't alot of emos or goths or funny people, just preppy people. the high scoolers' s eyeliners seriously freak me out(their like 3 inches thick) and all of them are wearing Abercrombie(which is kinda weird since THERE AREN"T ANY ABERCROMBIE STORES IN TAIWAN???)

So i'm wondering what the high schools in America are like.
Some survival tips should b helpful!! For example, what clothes stores are good(nice, but not TOO expensive), and if being crazy about pet fish and predatory animals is really THAT weird:)

okok, not ALL of them are preppy, but MOST. there's only 2 emos I have seen. There's always the geeks:)

I don't need that specific of a answer, a more general one would b fine:)

Wow, what a question. Couldn't really answer that one if I tried...well, I can tell you this much: Unless you go to a pet fish and predatory animals academy, people will think it's weird. Nice people won't, they'll pretty much leave you alone, but these rich preppy people that you talk about will probably give you hell for it for the rest of your high school life. They seem to find things like that very...funny, even if no one else thinks so. Not "hating" on preps, just saying. My high school is actually pretty cool, people keep to themselves and don't openly make fun of each other like I hear about in other places. Hot Topic is an AWESOME store, in most malls, and it seems goth/emo, but they have clothes & stuff from my favorite shows like Family Guy & bands like Green Day, which I like. If the high school has an ROTC program to go into, that's always good, too. I'm in Air Force Junior ROTC, and I love it! ((ROTC=Reserve Officer's Training Corps)) great if you want to go into the military, but it's not totally military. There's lots of fun projects and competitions, and it's a great place to establish yourself. Survival tips? I'd say, keep to yourself, but don't be emo about it. :P Don't openly tell people ((like, randomly walk up to people and start talking)) about yourself--wait until you know them a bit.
Eyeliner freaks me out, too, I only wear a little bit, at the base of eyelashes. I know a girl that has so much on, she must use a pencil each morning!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

High schools, and I'm assuming you are a talking about the public, state-funded high schools, are regional in nature, such that the people you live around are generally the people you will be in high school with. If you live in an area of the country, or a part of the city, with a lot of preppies and very few goths, then you are going to see that reflected in the high school as well. If you live in an area that is filled with Chinese or Mexicans or Eskimos, you are going to have a high school that is kind of similar.

The exceptions come in areas where there are a number of private schools, usually in big cities and generally on the East Coast. There you will find that many of the preppies have fled to privately run schools, leaving the high schools filled with predominantly lower-income families (and yes, unfortunately, this has a racial element as well). In some inner city areas, despite the population being say 50-50 black and white, you'll see the wealthier students going to private schools, leaving behind a racial makeup that doesn't quite match the surrounding community.

So, what I can say to help you out is that you'll probably find what you are looking for somewhere in your school. The thing about high school is that you can start to hang with your own friends and sort of 'tune out' the rest of the masses if they aren't what you are looking for.

Good luck.

That's too hard of a question. A high school in one city is totally different than a high school in another city. You're going to have a totally different experience going to a high school of a city with only 5,000 people than a huge city like New York. And by all means, no school will be JUST rich preppy people. Best of luck! :)

study what styles people wear and then you'll be able to buy the same ones (not EXACTLY the same, otherwise thats weird)
by being kind of the same as people it might help you to fit in,
just dont lose your personality
be nice and people will like you
