A) 0.25

The aquarium's current water level is 100 x 40 x 37 cm = 148,000 cm^3.

a 1000 cm^3 stone is submerged. So the water should displace this 1000 cm^3. The area of the base is 100 x 40 = 4000 cm^2.

Thus volume / area of base = water level risen.

1000 / 4000 = 1/4 = 0.25.

The answer should be 0.25cm. If you divide 1000cm3 by 4000cm2 you'll get .25cm.

Another Way to look at: The original volume of water is 100*40*37(water)=14800. The volume of water plus rocks is 14800+1000=15800. The difference is 1000cm3. The area of the base of the tank is 4000cm2. Divide 1000cm3 by 4000cm2 and you get .25cm.

volume of the rock=1000 cm^3
volume of water displaced=volume of the rock
=1000cm^3
suppose the water rises by x cm,
volume of water displaced=x cm*base area of the aquarium
=x*100cm*40cm
=volume of the rock
=1000cm^3

=>1000cm^3=x*4000 cm^3
=>x=.25cm
got it????
