Simple question...

Why are all the souvenir shops in London (and in most of the UK!) and others run by Pakistanis or Indians?

its my understanding that people like them come here to the Uk as poor or as seeking asylum...

So how does it work out that my parents and myself work hard all our lives here in the U.K and yet they arrive with nothing but have shops all over one of the most expensive Capital and country in the world?

I would really love to know how they do it!

Can Anyone enlighten me???

Members of the Pakistani and others often pool resources when entering into business or buying property. This 'binds' their society together and, quite frankly has some merit when you see some others going bankrupt, trying to cope on their own.
Unbiased white British Man.

I don't believe that ALL the souvenir shops in most of the UK are run by people of Pakistani or Indian origin. Further not all such people came to the UK as asylum seekers or poor immigrants. It might surprise you to know that there are other people in the world who are reasonably affluent and do not rely on State handouts living in other countries such as India and Pakistan. The real difference between "them" and "us" is the work ethic. That is to say "they" unlike "us" don't believe the world owes them a living. They are prepared to work long hours with little return to make a place for themselves in the world. It is no use working hard and long hours if you insist on high wages. high standard of living and other such benefits of living in a developed country. The perfect example of how to do it is to study the history of Marks & Spencer. From hawking habedashery in the streets to super store. The answer is work hard, live hard and be cheerful about small mercies.

'People like them' are not poor and do not seek asylum. You cannot generalise the entire Indian and Pakistani community in that way. These nations are successful businessmen/women who, as you yourself said, work hard for their living. Working hard is the only way to make money (unless you have inherited it or won the lottery!). You should note that these nations do have money, lots of it and its all been earned through fair and square means.
As to why do they seem to take over all the souvenir shops - I dont have the answer for this. I guess its a lucrative business as tourists are always keen to part with their cash for souvenirs so it must generate lots of revenue.

I would think they work very long hours in very low-paid jobs and live on as little as possible until they can get a shop. When they get a shop, they again work very long hours to send their kids to private schools and university, then the grown-up children can look after their parents.

Usually naive Americans and other tourists. I know you want me to say something rude about them, but as we have known for a long time, Asians are business people, and far sharper than we.
