i know two people online who read the book and liked it very much.. is it a good read? your opinions/comments are very much appreciated. :D

It is interesting and different, but also a bit dark. Not quite depressing, because it is so well written, but close -- not that one would expect a happy love fest with a title like that.
It is a well written and compelling story. It is also not too long, so if you don't like it, you aren't giving up a summer to read it. The movies wasn't bad, but the book was better. It was the introspection and diary-like comments and observations that made the book so good, not just the story that the movie portrayed. Since you can read the book in about the same amount of time you can watch the movie, I would recommend the book.

Yes, it is good. I bought it on a blind buy (the movie didn't come out by then), and I was rewarded with a good read.
