You'll need to get the HM for cut. You can find it on the ship, in the ships cabin from the captain (the room after you face gary) he'll give it to you. Afterwards the ship will depart. Select the HM from your bag and teach it to a pokemon as you would a TM. the pokemon needs to be a pokemon with claws or grass for your best bet. Though, don't teach it to one of your main party pokemon.

Well, you cannot. You can cut down little trees if you have the HM cut.

you need to get the ability "cut". and just so you know you need the ablility "flash" to see in the dark, "swim" to swim, "fly" to fly, and "strength" to push rocks. i dont remember where to get them all but i know that you get them before you actually NEED them.
