My 2000 Mazda 626 front end shakes violently at times. It doesn't do it all the time. I can make it stop by applying the brake and slowing down, after which I can begin driving normally again. There is no certain speed at which it occurs, although because it will shake so bad I don't go too fast with it. The tires are not low, nor do they have any bumps on them. It seems to be coming from the drivers side. I checked the car out at home to make sure lug nuts were tight, it seems so, the tire won't move when tugged on. When the shaking occurs it feels like the tire is about to fall off, or that the whole front end is going to fall off! What could this be?

You really can't tell if you have a bad tire just by the way it looks. A typical problem is called "a belt separation", and a tire technician may not even notice it because modern wheel balance machines have safety covers so he can't see the tire bobbing up and down as it rotates. One way to prove it's a bad tire is to move the rear tires to the front and the front ones to the rear. Then if you notice a change and the vibration goes to the rear, you'll know one of the rear tires needs replacing or rebalancing (probably the tire that started out on the driver's side front). Also have all the tires rebalanced.

I WOULD THINK THAT A BELT IN THE TIRE IS BROKE INSIDE OF THE TIRE, OR TIRES MADE NEED BALANCING. DOES IT MAKE A NOISE OR DOES THE TIRE GET HOT ON THE SIDE THAT SHAKES, IF SO IT COULD BE WHEEL BEARING. I WILL HAVE IT FIXED ASAP. TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IT.

it could be lots of things , if your short on cash and long on ambition swap your drivers front with another , your ( full size ) spare or a rear tire and check that out , if the wiggle is still in the drivers front you will have to get it inspected , if not the tire will have to be balanced or replaced , not all damage is visible , good luck

Have your tires checked, you may have a tear on the inside where the wheel and tire meet, or you just may need a balance done to all four tires.
Might want to get them Rotated too while your at it...

WalMart does this "well" for one time fee of $30.00 "lifetime" Bal and Rot. any tire.

Best wishes,

get your car to wheels balancing. You will notice that there are wights attached to the end of the wheel (where it meets the tire).
If a weight falls off, it immediately take the wheel out of balance, causing it to vibrate.

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me. And the wheel could fall off! STOP DRIVING IT and get it to a repair shop ASAP.
