I think many of the people are wondering about the same thing. I think that its due to migration of people from rural areas in search of jobs and livelihood they come to our city thinking that city means earning big bucks after they come here all that glitz and glam fades and they are blinded with reality that city doesnt offer everything without hardwork and their dream of making quick bucks ends before it can take a flight. they learn that even the literate people dont find jobs that easily.I thinks thats how slums sprung up since they cant afford the apartments.

Lots of out siders comes to Mumbai on daily basis to get Job, according to a survey daily around 700 n odd families comes to Mumbai but only a few returns back. Most of these people comes here to earn money. When these people do not get any place to stay as cost is much higher to stay, they try to sleep on Rly stations, Bus depots, Parks etc. etc. Police ask them to leave these places, they try to go to some place where no one ask them to leave, generally this place is the place, where no one comes to watch them. And gradually this place becomes a place wher all poor people who generally do not have good job / money. Gradually this place becomes a slum, where initially they dont have to pay to leave there, but ultimately some of the goon staying nearby area becomes Head and start collecting a small money from them.
