I was on the pill for 13 years non-stop. I came off it and had regular periods straight away. Then the first time we tried for a baby less than 3 months later, I got pregnant, and am now 31 weeks.
I also know lots of other women who have conceived as soon as they came off the pill.
Some women take a little while to get a regular cycle back. 80% of women who come off the pill start ovulating within 3 months and 95% start ovulating within 6 months. So there is a small chance that it will take a while for your fertility to return, but the chances are it will return pretty much straight away.
As for high miscarriage rates, I don't think there is any evidence to back that up. Unfortunately lots of pregnancies end in an early miscarrige. People think it happens more often these days and therefore blame the pill. However, in reality the reason is because people know they are pregnant so early on, and then they miscarry,
A generation ago, it just would have been seen as a late period because the tests weren't available to confirm pregnancies so early on.
Make sure you start taking your prenatal vitamins as soon as you come off the pill because you need them from the day you conceive!
Good luck!

I had all this when we decided to try for a baby and I came off the pill.
I heard that it can take at least a year for your body to get back to normal and I also heard that when you first stop taking it you are extremely fertile so I was confused. For Me it took 2 years (almost to the date strangely) to conceive but I have PCOS which makes it harder anyway. In the first year I had only 4 periods which didn't help but like I said that was because of the PCOS.
In the end my life was so consumed with trying to conceive that I would get really down every time I had a period and stressed myself out abit. I decided to go back on the pill for a year to give myself a break and it was then that I fell pregnant, I was waiting to take the first pill and took a test because I was late and it came back positive!!!!
I honestly think it depends on the person and if they have any other medical problems that might delay conception. Also if you let it take over your life like I did you end up getting stressed and I think that doesn't help either.
Good luck

I was on the pill for a few years and then quit. I was pregnant within a month. However, it does vary from person to person. While it only took me 2-3 weeks to conceive, I have heard of others taking a good bit longer. Stay positive and optimistic; don't worry yourself over "what if" because stress can wear your body down and keep you from conceiving. Good luck and have fun!

Look at the rate of women that get pregnant on the pill. I for one have gotten pregnant by missing a pill by just a few hours. But as for women that stop the pill to conceive. I have known at least 7 women that have conceived within 3 months of stopping it. They didnt have any side affects or problems in any way. I the one getting pregnant on the pill have a happy, healthy, wonderful 4 1/2 year old son. So it didnt affect or hurt him in any way either.
Best of Luck to you in conceiving. Have a great day!

Although you can get pregnant straight away, it took me a year to fall with my first, then 6 months with my 2nd, but only 3 months with my third. Each time i presumed it was down to the pill coming out of my system. It really depends on your body, and how it reacts to the pill . Good luck though. Annother piece of advise, when you come off pill, start taking folic acid, they say you should take it while trying as well as in first three months of pregnancy. Also don't get too stressed if you don't fall straight away, stress doesn't help. Take care

I'd wait 3 months and start trying. My doc said to get it all out of the system and let the body get used to not being on the pill to have less chance of miscarriage. Best wishes. Next time, go for the IUD. It is just a piece of brass they insert inside the female and is used as a blockage and is good for 10 years, and when you decide to have a baby, simply remove it. No waiting for your system to clean out first. I had it and loved it. Later.

we were in the same position a few years ago, and were told a similar story.
But we waited for approx three months before trying, (& until there were a couple of good strong periods ) then we were sure the drug had completely worked its way out.
My best friend fell pregnant one month after stopping the pill and mis-carried at an early stage.

I stopped taking mine the day after my wedding in september 2005 and was pregnant by october 2005. I had been taking various forms of contraceptives over the years but my Gorgeous boy was born safe and sound in June 2006. Increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy by stopping smoking, drinking alchahol and by eating a healty diet. This is what i did and we could hear the patter of tiny feet within no time.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE BABY MAKING!!!!
