Question for Conservatives. What does it mean to be a conservative?

I am not interested in dictionary or traditional definitions. If you define yourself as Conservative what do you think it means? Please do not define it by describing what it is not for. State, instead, what you think it is in favor of.

Being CONSERVATIVE has nothing (absolutely NOTHING) to do with preaching morality. The conservative philosophy believes in limited government -- plain and simple.

James Madison's Federalist Paper No. 45: "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined."

THAT is the essence of conservative government!

You generally believe that problems that face this country, (or any country for that matter) are not found in the fedearl government, but are best solved by local governments and in the private sector. Individual responsibility is more important than in liberalism. Take homelessness. Most homeless s got there because of decisions they made in their life, and are the person who has the most ability to get themselves out of it.

Basic morality (religious as well as what mom and dad teach us) Love of country ( Vote, respect of law, Join the Military if you are able) Respect your Fellows ( all colors included) Rights and respect of them. In my case I am for Abortion in cases of rape or insest or for health of the Mother and or Child. I believe That marrage is between a man and a woman and that gays deserve equal rights under civil unions. I believe in Global warming (and Cooling) as it has gone on for 5 billion years, mankind has little or no real effect on it.

Wave the bible, and preach against sex , and when you teach sunday school fondle little boys and little girls.
Thats conservatism at its best.
