I suppose a lot of people would be out of a job, and without a career that allows them to make enormous amounts of money, primarily based upon the fact that they have privileged knowledge about a topic all citizens should understand well-- the law. If there were no lawyers, then we would all have to have read all the law books and defend ourselves in court. I think a lot of people's rights would be violated, and there would be a great deal of injustice in our court systems.

Someone has to interpret the law before judges make rulings. I can imagine more competent lawyers, but there will always be room for ambulance chasers too.

I think that Shakespeare had it right when he said, and I am paraphrasing here, that if we want society to crumble, if we want lawlessness to rule and if we want to make sure we have no protections for our civil liberties, all " we have to do is kill all the lawyers"
