Wow, that gets me mad too. Although she may be drinking during breastfeeding months, she may also be storing milk ahead of time. Ask her if she is. Tell her that it is okay, but not to breastfeed for at least a couple days to allow the alcohol to leave the system. Hopefully she will plan and store ahead of time. While alcohol may leave the rest of the her body in a short amount of time, the breasts continue to produce milk for that baby and it will still be present in her milk. The effects on the baby can be very negative. The brain is still forming and connecting nerves and other vital things are developing as it grows. Introducing alcohol will surely not allow for those things to produce or connect. I personally think it's a risk I would never take when it comes to the health and welfare of my children, but then again I don't drink. Good luck talking to your friend.
P.S. Tell her to see another Dr. He obviously doesn't care about her child.

You'd have to talk to your doctor about the timing, but the alcohol wears out of your body with in a certain amount of time. A lot of mothers might also pump after going out and enjoying a few, so as to ensure there is no alcohol in the milk. You really don't know if she's pumping and dumping, so to say, or if her baby won't be feeding until the wine is metabolized. It sounds like she discussed this with her doctor and she most likely was keeping track of the drink and the timing, so she's probably handling it properly.

Boy what a judgmental bunch here!!
One or two in an hour does NOT hurt the milk quality, how long was Mom at the party, did she pump and store first...
As a former midwife (retired) and Nursing Mom of seven, I can assure you that an occasional night out, and even a nightly (regular wine glass size) glass of wine will not hurt a nursing baby.
Most of my friends ranging from attorneys to doctors, to stay at home mom's have allowed themselves a night out every other week while nursing...we all agree a couple of drinks does less harm for the milk than does massive doses of stress while nursing!!http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/16959.htm.
Enclosing sites for both!
This is a great site as well...and includes alot about caffeine alcohol and breastfeeding!http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/bfAlcoholCaffeine.html

La Leche League's THE BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK (pp. 597-598) says:
Alcohol passes freely into mother's milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when taken with food. Alcohol also freely passes out of a mother's milk and her system. It takes a 120 pound woman about two to three hours to eliminate from her body the alcohol in one serving of beer or wine...the more alcohol that is consumed, the longer it takes for it to be eliminated. It takes up to 13 hours for a 120 pound woman to eliminate the alcohol from one high-alcohol drink. The effects of alcohol on the breastfeeding baby are directly related to the amount the mother consumes.
Do I have to pump and dump after drinking an alcoholic beverage?
As alcohol leaves the bloodstream, it leaves the breastmilk. Since alcohol is not "trapped" in breastmilk (it returns to the bloodstream as mother's blood alcohol level declines), pumping and dumping will not remove it. Pumping and dumping, drinking a lot of water, resting, or drinking coffee will not speed up the rate of the elimination of alcohol from your body.
What if I get drunk?
Mothers who are intoxicated should not breastfeed until they are completely sober, at which time most of the alcohol will have left the mother's blood. Drinking to the point of intoxication, or binge drinking, by breastfeeding mothers has not been adequately studied. Since all of the risks are not understood, drinking to the point of intoxication is not advised.
BREASTFEEDING WITH A DRINK IN HAND IS COMPLETELY WRONG, SHE MUST BE AN IDIOT, SHE NEEDS TO GIVE IT SOME TIME TO GET OUT OF HER SYSTEM

experts say that its okay for a bf mom to have 1-3 alcoholic drinks. the only downfall is that u have to avoid breastfeeding 2-3 hours after your last drink. if she pumped before she started drinking she would be good to go and her baby would not starve.
don't be so quick to judge. the mother was not that terrible because she chose to drink.
edited: since u added in the extra information than u r correct that is is wrong, to breastfeed with a liquor drink in hand. i think she may have misinterpreted her dr.

Well they say that only about .001% of the alcohol will come thru the breastmilk, but I still would not chance it. Cause you really never know. If I was planning a drink of any sort.. I would make sure I had enough milk expressed to cover 2 days for the baby. That would make sure all the alcohol was out of my system.

No, it is not safe for the baby! You can't drink alcohol during pregnancy because it can affect the baby, and it is the same way for breastfeeding moms!
