Traveling from Boston to Buffalo.
Whitch is best to get around Albany (least traffic)
staying on Rte 90 or using Rte 87 and rejoining Rte 90,

Please not what any map services say, but from someone who lives or travels this area that actually knows.

Having driven through this area a number of times, I follow the signs that take the NYS Thruway spur off 90 to 87 North, then 90 West. Yes, that's what the mapping programs say.

90 through Albany is busier than 87 around, even on its worst days.

What you could do is go from Boston to greenfield. then greenfield to saratoga springs. From there join back to route 90.
