some battery acid spilled in the car trunk and caused some premature rusting , i've put some baking soda on the rust .

You should have put the baking soda on the acid immediately, to neutralize the acid.

Baking soda is a base, the opposite of an acid. It's a very mild one, but can cause corrosion if left in contact with the metal for an extended period of time. That's why you need to rinse it off when you use it to neutralize the acid.

Not any worse than the acid is. There are a lot of anti rust or rust neutralizers out there. I have always used naval jelly to stop rust or there is another product called extend by 3M. Both of these are going to turn the treated area black. Good luck.

baking soda w'd deteriorate ur paint,just use normal water w'd do.rub it dry first then touch up by aerosol spray paint.
