On paper, the government of the Philippines looks great. However, in practice its a different story. The Philippines democracy is still very young. Its unfortunate that their system of government was inherited from the United States when the Philippines achieved independence.

But with about 7,000 small islands, the effective governance of the philippines along with the social / economic problems of the country make effective governance difficult. Corruption is rife in the Philippines.

The prevalence of strong interest groups - the Catholic church, the role of the army in restoring order, the rich and powerful controlling the govenrment, the pre-eminence of powerful political families, all serve to undermine Philippines democracy.

The power of the Philipppines president to use the strong arm of the army to quell rebellion undermine the democracy, rather than encouraging ordinary people to have faith in the democractic processes of criticising politicians.

Government of the Philippines is good only on paper. The constitution and other laws are very well conceptualized but the implementation is worst.
