Back in 1888, my ancestors built a church in northern Wisconsin when they settled there from overseas. Even though i have not been up there for about 7 years, i have been hearing that the wooden siding on the church needs replacing, and the non profit group who owns the church has a siding fund to raise the money. I dont know how much siding needs replacing on the church, but could peeling off too much hurt the structure?

Siding does not have anything to do with the structures strength (as far as standing). Might I make a suggestion ? I am a sucker for history and thought maybe you should seek a professional and see if they can salvage any good siding and relocate it to the front of the church. At least this way you can still have the original siding on that side. then I would see about finding older siding to compliment it well.

If the siding has layer of boards underneath you should be able to remove off all siding without any problems
