I was just on the hobby forum and someone mentioned it as their hobby. I'm on my computer alot but I never thought of it as my "hobbie". What do you think?

Well there's no reason it can't be called a hobby. I would think of it more as a passtime than a hobby.
Hobby used to mean doing something constructive that was fun and enriched your life...and I supposed some people think it does so why not?
Dictionary interpretation:
"An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure."
I think because the computer pulls us away from pursuing other things is why it's difficult to think of it as a hobby...at least to me. It seems more of a waste of time to me but hey, I'm hooked too. *S*

Being on the computer isn't a hobby. A computer is a tool, it's what you do with it that makes it a hobby. Eg, playing PC games is a hobby. Upgrading, repairing, diagnosing and otherwise fiddling with PC hardware can be a hobby. Programming can be a hobby.
Saying the computer is a hobby is like a guy who does carpentry for fun, and saying playing with the saw is his hobby; or an artist saying using a paint brush is their hobby.

yes, i think being on a computer is a hobby...a lot of people play games and get on the internet...it's something entertaining to do...that is what counts as a hobby..

I think it's kind of a hobbie of mines but i can say that people don't classify it as a hobbie..
