Stimulating your nipples releases the hormone oxytocin. This is a natural hormone that is believed to play a role in bringing on labor. Pitocin is a synthetic form of this hormone that is used to induce labor in the hospital. This method may work, but takes time. It's best if you are already showing signs of labor.

Don't attempt nipple stimulation without talking to your doctor. Many will only allow you to do this in the hospital, while the baby is being monitored. This is because stimulating the nipples can cause strong contractions, which can affect the baby's heart rate. For this reason, you want to be monitored when attempting this

I have heard that it is one of the things that does work but you have to be consistent..
I found this post on another website:
**My friend suggested nipple stimulation. Fifteen minutes on each side for an hour for a total of 3 hours a day. She swears by it. I just thought I would suggest it, and I am 3 weeks away from my due date, so I will let you know if it works.**

Although i have read on other websites you need to do it even longer than that.. Also that it can also be dangerous due to over stimulating the uterus.. Maybe if your serious about trying you could google the question to get some different views.. God luck! Xx

I went 10 days over, had 3 sweeps, tried all the fads with food, sex, homeopathic rememdies nipple stim. etc.. The thing that did it was being booked in for induction! Was due to go in 2:30 tues and i went into labour half 7 that tues morning!! Millie was born at 11 am 31/2 hrs later!!!
They say with nipple stimulation, fiddling with them is not how its done - sorry hubby's - you have to use a breast pump and sit in the evening and do it continously for an hour per boob - I can tell you now, you can't hear the tv (with an electric one), your arm aches from holding it up and after an hour your boobs are killing!!!
Oh and it didn't work for me and i did it for about 3 days running!
good luck xx

In my opinion and experience ( 3 kids ) nothing works! Sorry, it's all a myth. I remember trying everything and your little bundle of joy will come out when he / she is ready. Make the most of it, you will get more sleep and peace while pregnant no matter how uncomfortable than after the birth. The hospital will induce after 10 days usually if you are still hanging on. Good luck.

IWhen a baby breast feeds the action of breast feeding contracts the uterus and women say thay can feel this happening. So in theory nipple stimulation should help you contract and in some cases this works. In fact for some women whose contractions are irregular it can make them more frequent. So the answer is, yes it does work for some (but not all) women.Good luck

A midwife told me about this and said it takes hours and hours. I think there is a natural oil you can buy to rub on your tummy maybe you can look into this.
Have a glass of red wine it worked for a friend of mine.
Or try and have sex ( was the last thing on my mind)

I'm afraid it didn't work for me! Believe me, I tried and enjoyed trying! Had sex practically every night too but, still my baby was late. It just all depends on when your body is ready.

Good luck, have fun, and love to your baby! xx

I have heard of that one although never tried it.

The ones I tried were eating curry, fresh pineapple, and s$x. None of which worked.
