sdbskrl you are correct,but sania mirza is not popular for her game nor for her physic , she is only hyped in india, even indian abroad know her only as model, recently only we came to know she is a tennis player

Leander paes was leading with mahesh bhupati close behind. However Sania mirza seems to have gained an instant popularity in the last few months. :)

Well known abroad... Sorry pal.. There is no one.. Vijay Ameritraj, Mahesh Bhupati, Leander Paes etc., are known only in India. They might have one one or two titles here and there but they are pretty basic. You don't earn name through winning doubles or mixed doubles.
Only Sania Mirza is becoming famous now-a-days. And it has to do with her physique also in addition to her game.

The most well'known Indian player is Vijay Amritraj!
Then come Leander Paes,Mahesh Bhupati, Sania Mirza,etc

Its the Mahesh Bhupati and Leonadar Paes's pair. Even a little child knows their name. They are known aboard of India and Sania Mirza is also a great tennis player.

its obviously vijay amritraj... leander paes and mahesh bhupati do not have any individual identity.. they have won many titles but most of them have come in doubles or mixed doubles.. and sania mirza is just a rising star .. she has a long way to go

Mahesh Bhupati.......coz he is the winner of 10 grandslams....and liender can be a big figure than bhupati in Davis Cup format but at world level Bhupati's acceptance is much more than liender or sania....
