I'm a moderate. I like being moderate. However, I find my good friend common sense to be siding up with people on the right more often than not. It's not because of base ideology, its because most of the things people coming from a leftwing ideology have to say on this site go something like this:

"OMFG DA BHSU R BAD MENS!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111one1 HE R BLEWED UP DA WERLD TRADES CENTER WID MAGIC AND H E WNTS 2 IRAQ 4 OIL ROFLLZLL!!!!!!!11"

Because I have faith in people in general, and in fact in people from both sides of the aisle, I have a request for the left leaning population of Y/A:

Give me some ideas that make sense. Making sense in general would be a large improvement. Let me see your smartest, most original left wing thoughts. Presidents like FDR exemplify perfectly what a good liberal should be: full of fresh and intelligent new ideas. Has this been replaced by lunacy? That seems to the be the trend so far. Can you please show me otherwise?

Conservatives are about holding onto old ideas that are good. Liberals are about creating new ideas to enable progress. When one part fails in its duty, the whole machine falls apart. Don't let this happen.

Surrounded, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make by calling me an idiot. Not a very good substitute for an actual response is it? By the way, our political views are formed by our experiences in this world. This may shock you, but that's how it works.

Moderation is not the haven of the coward. It is the more resilient to propaganda from both sides and those that are intelligent enough to realize that we need both growth (liberalism) and protection (conservativism).

A good liberal or conservative is just someone that puts more effort in one direction. There is no side that is inherently false at the ideological level.

I would consider myself a moderate as well. Mainly because I hate party affiliation. Either side is just as capable of doing great things as they are at being corrupt. I have to admit though I find myself moving more toward the left for two reasons: First I recently read a great book by Robert Reich called Reason. It is a fairly short and easy read that will make you think. And second I heard Obama speak the other day and the guy blew me away. I'm not sold on him just yet but he defiantly impressed me.

Sadly, the Democrats have been reduced to the equivalent of bitter old women, idly rocking on the front porch of her decaying home, screaming at the kids to stop playing so loud, and raging at a world she neither understands nor feels she is a part of.

Consider this: Republicans are NOT the stodgy, living-in-yesterday types the press tries to imply. What did Reagan do when confronted with the seemingly impossible task of forcing the USSR to cede victory in the Cold War? He bankrupted them. Simple and easy.

Now Bush sees the Middle East as ripe for the spread of Democracy, while Liberals can't even imagine what they view as irrational and volatile Arabs and Persians ever ruling themselves without a strongman dictator to keep them in line.

Get the picture? Conservatives are bringing the cutting edge, dynamic thinking that used to characterize Liberals.

So, maybe you should consider yourself a Moderate who is willingly moving to the Right.

Uh... I think this is a little unfair. Shouldn't you hold the conservatives on YA to the same standards?

Look, you have to make your own mind up about things, but if you come here to compare the merits of well-argued, balanced cases presented by intelligent and qualified commentators, then you're even more of an idiot than most of the people here. As for your political views, you should decide on the basis of the facts, not on how repelled you are by the ramblings of bored high-school kids with too much time on their hands.

I suggest you read the New York Review of Books (or the London Review of Books) if you want a refreshing, original left-wing perspective. But don't go groping in the sewer and then complain that all you find is $hit.

P.S. Don't tell people you're a moderate. Moderation is the haven of the coward.

Congrats, your evolving into a well rounded American. The Left keep going left & now are totally out there. There are very few liberal hawks and they've been pretty much abanded by there own party. When Liberals can debate with out throwing a tantrum and educate themselves, then I think they might have a chance in '08, but they're pretty much loons right know.

Psst. it's mostly kids and younger people, lol. But I know what you mean. Those mental blinders that people wear to limit themselves from actually having an informed opinion are very frustrasting.

It's been proved the human brain does not fully mature until your 25, your just growing up and acquiring some common sense. Just wait til you start making real money, then they start taking it from you and give it to some lazy losers
