I hope this little fella gets proper help and treatment, it's down to his mum that he is obese, if she is feeding him cr*p. If it's a thyroid disorder then medication will be necessary to help him.
I don't give my son lots of cr*p to eat, obviously he will have a treat now and again but I wouldn't stuff him full of crisps and sweets 24/7. Surely if the mother of this poor boy had any common sense she would have realised that his weight was a serious issue, and could have prevented it before it got this bad.
Good luck to the boy. I hope he gets the help he needs. :-)

It's definitely the mothers fault! She seems to want to blame others by saying the doctors aren't quick enough to act etc but it's her that's feeding him! She isn't forced into buying all that junk and letting him sit about and not go out to play or exercise. Thing is, what does the mother look like? If she's just as big then no-one can blame anyone but her! It's the same for those who blamed McDonald's for making them fat!! McDonald's don't force the customers into ordering their food and handing over their hard earned cash! It does sound a bit extreme for th boy to be taken away, it may end up with reverse effects such as the boy may become anorexic in later life, but if the mothers not intelligent enough to realise she's the one that's not feeding him healthily and that junk food is bad for you then I think it's the mother that needs punished and have her money taken away and exchanged for food vouchers for veges and fresh meat etc.

At the Wright's Stuff talk show this morning, they suggests that in the news the mother apparently missed most of the appointments to see the doctors and professionals. Makes you think how responsible the mother actually is.
But I don't want the boy to be taken away from his family and into a care home. I don't know the answer.
(Gillian McKeith? No, I'm kidding).

The mother is at fault here. Sensible feeding starts from babyhood. 14 stone in weight at 8 yrs old does not happen overnight. Even if he has an eating disorder, she is filling the cupboard with all the wrong food. She is just looking for an excuse. She should be locked up as she is as sure as hell
slowly killing her son....That is not mother love.

Yes it is the mothers fault she provides the meals/food .... I don't think that taking her son away from her will help tho , personally i think it will do more damage than good, wouldn't it be better to get a social worker in a health adviser and try and re-educate the family about their dietary needs ...
It annoys me that there are children out there that suffer far worse abuse than this and yet nothing is done .... they are left with parents who beat and abuse them , why take this action for this family ? yes i can see its a form of abuse but like i said wouldn't it be far better to get help for the whole family rather than take the son away !? If that fails then yes place him under care ... I don't know the full details so maybe they have tried this .... I think its a sorry affair for all concerned ....

Yes - she's obviously not taking any care of his dietary requirements at all. This morning on gmtv he was allegedly interviewed but could hardly manage to say a word, but I bet when the film crew had left his mother got out the burgers and chips for him as a "treat" for being "such a good boy" in front of the camera!

i agree to an extent...but everyone involved in the lads life is responsible (to an extent) the mother started it all off tho....it's easy to look to the professionals for blame but at the end of the day they aint FEEDING the lad...he also needs to take responsibility... they need to look at WHY he's eating so much or any medical reasons why he's overweight (to say the least),,,

There have always been for want of a better expression Billy Bunter types. Some people only have to look at a cream cake and put on weight . I do feel sorry for the lad but I do not think it is his or his mothers fault, just another nail in the coffin with regard to the police state. Accusing her of neglect is totally extreme, it is obvious that he is not neglected just overweight. So we have the fat police, when will it stop???

Can the poor child move?
I'd regard it as parental cruelty unless there is a medical condition responsible. If it is not a medical condition then I think that social services should consider removing the child to a place of safety.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/zUo0R
Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.
Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.
Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.
