Da Vinci.
Einstein was brilliant and to this there is no doubt. His knowledge comes from the present mind set of today. However, his theory's were just that: theory's'. Many still can be be proved if not at all.
Da Vinci, on the other hand came from a time around the beginning of the Renaissance. Much of his knowledge came from within without the help of others. In fact, free thinking was still frowned upon during this time, especially with the church.
Einstein, on the other hand, although getting kicked out of school once for telling his teachers they were wrong, also had modern knowledge to glean. Maxwell and others were used to help him produce a lot of what he did.
Da Vinci may have had some help but of what value? Not much I'm afraid. In fact, it almost seemed like he could look into the future. This I did not notice of Einstein.
It is my thinking if Einstein was born during Da Vincis'. not much would have become of him. Mathematics, maybe but with what the church being the way it was, he would not have contribute as much as Da Vinci.
However, if Da Vinci was born during this period, he would have flourished. His inventions could have been realized and even better ones could have been had.
This is why Da Vinci wins this won, hands down.

In my opinion I would vote a consumate polymath over a person whos feild of study was much narrower. Therfore I would say Da Vinci as he excelled in a greater variety of disiplines and subjects. Whereas Einstein though brilliant as he was stayed within a more confined feild of study. To quote another genius though "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" which shows us that even the greatest learns from the past.
Of all English geniuses I favour Robert Hooke as the greatest

Talking of genius, Da Vinci is the genius, as he did not have predecessors in experimenting the physiology, helicoptors, tanks, etc. Da Vinci did not have colleagues in the same field of science. Even worse, he had rivals in the form of Michelangelo who were waiting to stab him and cut his throat (literally). He had to act himself, and he was a solitary explorer.
Einstein had many predecessors (not to mention the support from Neil Bohr - Atom Expert) discussing. There was lots of support from across the world, say Europe and America and less rivalry, as compared to the barbaric Da Vinci days. Einstein, with all due respect to his works and talent, had a good team (far off across countries) to work with.

I reckon DA Vinci was smarter as Einstein had a far greater amount of resources available to help him with his theories, etc.

Da Vinci was a more prolific designer of inventions.
There are many of his invention designs which are just now becomming practical to attempt to build.
Da Vinci was also a highly gifted artist.
Einstein was a brilliant theorist... but his wife had to remind him to wear pants.
Over all, Da Vinci would have to be ranked higher in intelligence.

Einstein actually had a low IQ and had a form of autism. Da Vinci was much smarter.

My vote goes to Einstein!
In my highly subjective opinion Da Vinci's theories were easier to replicate by his peers.

Einstein 'inherited' a great deal of information from Newton, which he interpreted in new ways. Da Vinci was a class apart from anyone who came before.
