The Tory plan would see the government's plan for ID cards scrapped, and the estimated £20bn spent on the border police instead.
The border police force would be part of Soca, and would focus on preventing and detecting illegal immigration, stopping terror suspects coming into the UK, and cracking down on the trade in human beings.
Any views on this?

Lets put it this way. When we had customs officers at ports and airports, and our borders were looked after, then we didn't have this trouble.
A certain Prime Minister of the same colour scrapped most of this to save a few pounds.
False economy.
That sort of money spent on effective immigration control will be more effective than ID cards.
(and now I get a violation for saying 'immigration' in this country of free speech. Ah well, such is life....)

It sounds like a better idea than wasting 20bn on ID cards so from that point of view its got to be an improvement.

Im a Police officer for my sins.
I dont believe that ID cards will make a jot of a difference in the UK and therefore they will be a waste of money.

There are many many ways of checking someones ID at the moment , so cards just arnt needed

The money would be better spent of larger investigation teams up and down the country , better immigration control and more prisons.

It's a good idea. Its also much cheaper than ID Card. What we need is a separate group of people who's job will be specifcally to track down and prevent illegal immigrantion, Track down the people traffickers and also preventing terror suspects from entering the UK. The Border Police is the answer but.........aren't we replacing what one Prime Minister got rid of. And isn't this just another way of trying to win votes. After all which politician has ever done anything they've said.

We already have the makings of a good system in place, with the immigration service, but the government don't/won't let them do the job they are paid for. We have immigration control on entry but not on leaving, therefore we have no idea who the hell is in this country. This is just one area that need to be looked at, there are many others such as the government telling immigration officers not to actively look for illegal immigrants and them not being allowed to go into some places to remove people as these areas have been made no-go areas by illegal criminals.
If we used the things already in place we may even manage to do it for a fraction of the cost, but then all governments like to spend money that isn't theirs.

A good reason for scrapping ID cards is because of the cost. Spending it on something else instead? Border police will only work at the border. Identity theft is a problem and one day it will need to be tackled. This plan is just a means of winning votes, or trying to.

We don't need to spend £20bn on securing the borders. We just need to let immigration officers do their job.

ID cards will be scrapped anyway. They'll need the money to pay for the Olympics.

It sounds a far better idea than having to carry my papers around for the local gestapo. This used to be a free country that was run for the benefit of its own citizens.

i don't think of I certainly have ever seen one strolling patrol on my own. I did as quickly as see 3 in a set. because of the fact the executive Constable prohibits them working in packs, I asked (being the known public lively individual i'm, and continuously keen to help the executive Constable) why they have been in this variety of vast group. curiously they have been all going interior a similar direction, and in basic terms happened to being walking on a similar velocity. I did see one on my own, in a automobile. He controlled to interrupt approximately 3 habit and p.c.. regulations in as many seconds. The final one I observed replace into in a double crewed automobile, stopped throughout the time of a working lane and a parking place blockading the view from a pedestrian crossing, with out seatbelt on. because of the fact I regarded at him (desirous to pass the line and by no skill having seen a police automobile so badly parked) he concept i'd be needed. I daudled so he ought to get closer me (so i need to be sure his identity) and he finally caught up with me, broke some extra p.c.. regulations, and desperate I wasn't who he replace into searching for. in case you notice them in pairs, i think of their supervisors will prefer to comprehend. In concept they don't look to be allowed to eliminate or conceal their shoulders marks, yet as they're badly knowledgeable and poorly disciplined, they ruin the regulations. in the event that they do ask their extensive sort. in the event that they decline call your community police non emergency extensive sort and provide a depiction, time and place. in addition they have no exemption from parking rules, so ring your community council (parking group) or the police (habit group) in case you notice them on double yellows. Take a image in case you are able to, and be conscious the time.
