Since a lot of websites are just a bunch of links to affiliate programs or similar money making ventures, why bother creating one at all when you can buy a clever domain name, park it, and let the hosting service populate it with a bunch of links that they come up with based on your domain? You can do SEO and all the other stuff just as though it were a regular website, and you wouldn't have to have any hassles maintaining it.

What you describe sounds good on paper, but it is very difficult to execute as the user has to type in the domain directly without using a search engine.

Yes, there are those who have made good money, and this was discussed at length at Webmaster World, however, I look at it as a way of stepping over dollars to pick up quarters. There are bigger markets to get into and anytime something sounds so easy, it is generally not.

You would need hundreds or thousands of domains to make enough to live on a month. That sounds like an admin nightmare to me.

You can't really do any SEO on parked domains because by definition, these are only domains with NO content. You won't get top rankings from SEs with parked domain -- unless something is radically wrong with the search engines.

Parked domains get most of their traffic from (a) typed in traffic because the domain name closely resembles a popular website; or (b) previous links and rankings if the domain used to be a live site

You can earn money from domain parking like some do if you have thousands of domain names under your belt. Then you can join the Adsense for Parked Domain program which is currently available to LARGE portfolio domain holders http://www.google.com/domainpark/faq.html -- and that typically means THOUSANDS of good domain names.

This type of money making approach was discussed in Business 2.0 magazine way back in 2005 http://money.cnn.com/magazines/business2/business2_archive/2005/12/01/8364591/index.htm and how some people are making MILLIONS from domains
