If Dubai, then a good place to start may be at www.dubaiforums.com
If in other places, call up that old pal you haven't spoken to in years, and tell him/her you're visiting..

I guess the suggestions are your friend, someone who is prepared to let you stay at their place yet never seen you , a worker hostel ( not nice at all ) , a youth hostel or cheap hotel.
I wasn't sure what you wanted or where you wanted to stay, but the best place to go is cheaperthnahotels - UAE - which is a directory of participating hotels promoting last minute deals and longer term discounts.Some of the hotels will offer free inclusions.
$60 - 65 a night is about the cheapest available in Dubai - you may obtain cheaper before you go, but if you wait until you arrive you can likely shop around, but personally I'd think you have betterways to spend your 7 days - so I recommend sorting through the options on the directory.
Dubai - Deira is about the cheapest place at $60 per night per room in the K-Porte Inn. Dubai International Airport is 5 Kms away which takes about 8 min. - nothing special though - clean, tidy and basic.
