Well if you would ask me who is the best captain for india, i would say Ganguly.

But,
If you would ask me who should be the captain of india, then i would say Rahul dravid.

Thats because :

Captaincy is all about the tactics and strategies which captain makes, creates plans to get wickets, on the feild during matches and no doubts on souravs ability as captaincy, brett lee also once called him the Best tactician, thats what australia thinks about him.

But, its not only that best tactician should be a captain, you also have to see the side effects of captaincy on the captain, sourav had lot of side effects of captaincy on him, his contribution with the bat decreased a lot, he wasnt that batsman any more, with all time thinking bout the team's strategies and other players, he wasnt able to look at his own batting.

But in case of dravid there is nothing like that, instead of pressure of captaincy his batting has improved a lot he is a kind of player who performs when there is more responsibility on the shoulders

So you either have sourav (with decreased efficiency) but very good captiancy or have dravid ( with increased effiency ) not a bad captain either has done the job nicely upto yet.

No.. it will actually reduce it further because it will demotivate Dravid who is like a binding glue to the team as a batsman.

Without Dravid in the team in his form, its' hard for the team to win. Remember, Sourav's success as a captain was largely contributed by Dravid due to his match 'finishing' abilities.

If Ganguly can extend his advices to Dravid and mringle with him well, it will not only increase the spirits of the game but also the country that has been devided over Ganguly and Dravid. Dravid has been doing reasonably well by providng good chances to Ganguly even by giving him bowling.

Don't get blinded by the favortism here. We should think about the country, not about individuals.

I don't think the winning chances will greatly improved if Ganguli is made the captain. Dravid is not a great captain but he is at lest functional captain and a reliable batsman in his position. I'm sure the luck will change for better for India after the world cup and the departure of Greg Chappell. There are many young and talented players just waiting for a chance to serve their country.

Captaincy alone is not a yardstick to win the world cup. What matters is the performance of all the players. In fact if Ganguly would have been made as a Captain, it would have defenitely hurt the feeling of Rahul Dravid, who hs been doing reasonably well as a Captain and this may not only affect his morale, but also there is possibility that there will be division in the team and morale of the whole team will be down.

Hence Selectors Selectors have taken a wise decision not to disturb the captaincy.
